We’re Back, Serving Our Patience Safely

We hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe during these challenging times.

Waterloo Smiles as per public health guidelines and direction from The Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario has recommended the restart of health care services, including all dental services. Thank you for your patience and we are very excited to be able to return to providing safe, quality oral care for our patients. Your health and safety and that of our staff will continue to guide our protocols during the next phases of Covid-19.

What do you need to do?

At this time, all dental appointments can now be rescheduled. Please call in at 519-888-6063 or email in at info@waterloosmiles.com to get booked in.

If you think you have a dental emergency, call us at 519-888-6063 during our working hours and after hours call the dental emergency service for Kitchener Waterloo at 1-888-757-936. Do not go to the hospital emergency room for a dental problem.

Practicing good dental hygiene and following healthy lifestyle habits continues to be more important than ever.

We will NOT be able to service you on a Walk-In basis. Appointments must be pre-scheduled so that proper Covid-19 screening can occur.

Expect that the current new protocols will add time to your check in and processing.

What can you expect when you return?

You will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms by telephone/email when you book your appointment as well as when you arrive for your actual appointment. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 including a fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, please contact us in advance to let us know and do NOT

come in for your appointment. Please advise us if you have been in contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19; do NOT come in for your appointment.

You will need to come alone if possible to minimize the number of people in the clinic at once. Children and those needing assistance may have one companion who will also need to be screened. You will be asked to arrive at your appointment 10 minutes early for another screening and any needed forms.

Some appointments will be staggered to maintain social distancing between patients.  We have changed our reception room to allow for social distancing if others are present at the same time. Please respect the space requirements. These requirements do mean that we have less flexibility for scheduling you so please be mindful of this as we return to being operational. Non contact body temperatures MAY be taken upon entry.

  • You will be asked to sanitize your hands upon arrival and at the end of your appointment.
  • You will be asked to come in with your own mask. If you arrive without one, we will be able to provide you with a mask for a nominal fee added to your invoice.
  • We will stream line check in and check out procedures to ensure social distancing.
  • You will receive a 14 day follow up asking if you have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms since your dental appointment.
  • We will be reviewing and updating protocols regularly during this time to keep you safe and minimize risk while performing necessary dental treatment.

What we have been doing to protect you for your return to our dental office:

Your health and safety and that of our staff is our primary concern. Our practice undertakes industry best-in-class infection prevention and control measures, and we are confident that with sufficient protective measures in place, our dental practice represents a safe and low-risk environment for our patients. We will continue to follow IPAC guidelines for infection control; as always, however, now you will see our clinical staff in more PPE consisting of gloves, masks, face shields, eye protection and even gowns when appropriate. We are actively sourcing and procuring all necessary PPE for our staff to be able to safely treat you on an ongoing basis.

We have installed barriers at our reception desk to minimize the risk of transmission of airborne pathogens. You will note that all of our rooms have temporarily been enclosed (yes it looks a bit like a construction site) to minimize any airborne pathogens between our operatories. We will be permanently enclosing all of our rooms with glass doors soon.

As many of you know, we have for many years had the surgically clean air unit a specialized 2 part dental air filtration system: an air cleaning system to help eliminate dental office contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, VOCs, disinfectant odours and mercury vapours; and now will also have air purifiers in all operatories to increase our air exchanges per hour to create as clean of an environment as we can. All of our systems have activated carbon filters and super-HEPA particle filters capable of capturing particles down to 0.1 microns at 99.99% effectiveness.

We have removed all magazines and toys from the reception and temporarily closed our coffee and water station. Our iPads in the children’s area and the toy chest have also been temporarily removed. (we would still be happy to pass a toy or a pack of gum to those that wish to have, just no dipping hands into any of our usual spaces)

We continue to be grateful for the support and kind messages from all of you and very much look forward to seeing all of you in the dental office again soon. Your continue referral of new patients is always appreciated!
